Monday: Peace

The Gospel for Every Day

Each day, we slow down to align our hearts with God’s Rhythms of Grace.

This series, we examine the portrait of the Extraordinarily Ordinary Christian Life.

This week, we meditate on the theme of Peace throughout Scripture.

Today’s Scripture

It wasn’t easy for new followers of Jesus to learn to live in peace together in the first century, and it still isn’t. To anyone tempted to give up, today’s Scripture reminds us that those “for whom Christ died” are worth the discomfort that leads to peace.

Reading slowly, let God convict you by his truth and overwhelm you by his grace in Christ.

Romans 14:10-19

10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written,

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,

and every tongue shall confess to God.”

12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

Gospel Meditation

Prayerfully meditate on the Scripture you just read using the rhythm Look Up, Look In, Look Out:

Look Up: What does this reveal about God?

Look In: What does this reveal about me?

Look Out: Where is Christ leading me today?

Closing Prayer

Inspired by Luke 22:47-53

Lord,

When you were betrayed by Judas, and by me, you saw to the other side to restoration

Thank you that you bring healing and peace even in the midst of our mess

May I receive your peace this new day and be a beacon of your reconciliation to the world

In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace,

Amen.
